A useful study presents a specific question, a reproducible method and the limits of its observations. It can relate to a small sample if it is described honestly. To produce a citable resource, show how you get your results rather than looking for a spectacular number.

ask a verifiable question

Choose a problem related to your expertise: readability of forms, weight of images or consistency of service pages. Define in advance what will be observed and what will remain outside the perimeter. A weight measurement alone does not prove the quality of a user experience. A credible study retains these distinctions from its protocol, before knowing the results.

Describe selection

Explain how the pages or situations were chosen, how many were examined and on what date. Report exclusions and non-measurable cases. A convenience sample can be used as exploration, but it does not automatically represent an entire sector. Anonymize or prepare the data according to the context and avoid publishing information that is not necessary for the demonstration.

Write a protocol before collecting the results

A protocol should allow another person to redo the observation, or at least understand why they would get a different result. Describe what is observed, under what conditions and with what tool. A study on pages should not suggest that it relates to all visitors. A laboratory measurement should not be presented as a measure of actual behavior without a suitable device.

Protocol sheet to complete before a study
RubricExample of expected precisionLimit to announce
QuestionDo the messages explain how to correct a field error?the measure does not relate directly to conversions
SelectionCriteria for Inclusion of Forms and ExclusionsThe sample may not represent a sector
ScenarioFields, demonstration data and course stepsAnother scenario can produce another state
DecisionPreliminary definition of an acceptable messageambiguous cases must be reread
PreservationGrid, dates, relevant captures and calculationsSome data may require protection

This method produces a more exploitable resource than a general statement on the quality of forms. It also shows where judgment comes in. If two reviewers do not classify a situation in the same way, keep the disagreement and clarify the criterion. Forcing a binary response would give apparent precision to a still unstable definition.

Show protocol and calculations

Specify Tools, Versions, Test Conditions, and Processing Missing Values. Provide an understandable calculation example. If multiple trials are needed, explain how you summarize them. Separate observations and interpretations in the text. Google's recommendations on useful content enhance the originality and explanation of the work carried out; Our proposal is to make this work controllable by the reader.

Fictional example: Testing forms

A team examines demo forms to check whether error messages indicate a possible correction. She publishes her grid, describes the scenarios and shows some fictional examples. It does not turn this result into an assumed conversion rate. To measure a commercial effect would require another device, appropriate data and an analysis of other changes.

Present the result with its denominator and its limits

Imagine a fictional demonstration on forms built for a workshop. The report can show the scenarios examined, the criteria and the proposed corrections. As long as no visitor measurement has been carried out, it should not announce a drop in abandonment or an increase in sales. An example of calculation should be identified as such, and its values should not be recycled afterwards as a commercial result.

  1. Keep unmeasurable cases instead of removing them silently. Explain their effect on the number of cases examined.
  2. For each table or graph, specify Unit, Period and Population. A proportion without its denominator is difficult to interpret.
  3. Separate observations, possible interpretations and recommendations. The reader must be able to accept the facts without having to accept all your conclusions.
  4. Prepare a correction note if an error is found. A useful study can evolve without masking its history.

A publication of this type can be used to document the expertise of an agency when it shows the work actually done. It must not manufacture a field experience, a team of proofreaders or a non-existent collection. The Google quality questions insist on own contribution and reliability; Our proposal is to make this contribution visible in the method. The Affirmation Register Can maintain the link between each conclusion and the corresponding proof.

Prepare for reuse

Add a short summary, readable tables, collection date and a stable link to the method. A chart should remain understandable with its units and legend. Also plan a correction if an error is discovered. Link the study to your Presentation of expertise and evidence, without announcing a ranking gain or quotes that you have not measured.
