    Key information

    Present your activity clearly

Visitors need simple reference points and search systems need consistent facts. We organise the information that identifies the organisation and explains its services, contact details, service areas, opening arrangements, authors, common questions and relationships between pages. Where appropriate, the same visible information is represented with suitable structured data such as Organization, Service, BreadcrumbList or FAQPage. Markup is not used to introduce claims that a visitor cannot see on the page, and it does not guarantee a special search result. Its role is to describe an already clear website more explicitly while keeping the content accurate, maintainable and aligned across languages and public profiles.

The goal is to make the website clearer for visitors, easier to maintain and better organised for search engines, local discovery and AI-assisted answers.

Describe real entities without adding hidden claims.

Structured data is useful when the site has stable, visible information about its organisation, services, articles and navigation that can be represented accurately. It should be considered after the page itself is clear. A valid JSON-LD block is not evidence that the underlying fact is true or that a rich result will appear.

    Inventory visible entities and relationships

Identify the organisation, its approved public identity, each service, article author or publisher and breadcrumb path. Decide which page is the canonical source for each fact. Avoid creating multiple conflicting identifiers for the same entity across templates.

Choose types that match the page

Represent an article as an article, a service as a service and a navigational path as breadcrumbs when the visible page supports that description. Do not add ratings, local offices, prices or FAQs that are absent from the page or cannot be verified. Language alternatives should carry the correct language and URL.

    Validate code and editorial truth

Parse the generated JSON-LD across representative templates, then compare names, dates, images, URLs and claims with what a visitor sees. Repeat this after template or content changes. Tool warnings need interpretation; the strongest check is that structured information remains accurate and maintainable. A changed price, address, availability or author must be reflected in visible copy and the relevant properties. A validator checks syntax and some rules; it does not establish whether a fact is true. Do not invent reviews, scores or organisation status to expand markup. Record the URL, date and discrepancies corrected.

    What to prepare

    • Actually published identity, contact details, authors and offers, with their approver.
    • Examples of each template and a list of extensions already producing markup.
    • Validation messages linked to the page URL and version.
    • A list of schema types justified by visible pages

    How to verify the result

    • Syntax is valid and each important property matches visible content on that page.
    • The same entity retains a consistent identity across templates and languages.
    • A price, date or status change also appears in the generated markup.

Continue with the practical guide: Verify pages before launch.

    Decision points

Begin with the page and its real entities

    Situation to examine

Structured data describes information that actually belongs on a page: an organisation, article, service, product or other relevant entity. An attractive search treatment does not justify absent or unsupported properties.

    Choice to make

Inventory pages, their main subject and relationships between entities. Confirm names, addresses, authors, dates, products and offers with their owners. Then choose a suitable type and exclude unverified ratings, reviews, prices and availability.

    Evidence of success

Validate syntax and properties, then compare markup with visible copy and other language versions. A passing technical test does not guarantee a search feature; observe real results without promising an appearance.

    Read the evidence

Valid markup can still describe incorrect information

Fictional teaching example · no client result or live site measurement

A fictional page passes a syntax check. Its declared properties are then compared with what visitors can actually read on the page.

    1. Markup syntax
    2. Agreement with the page
    3. Type-specific eligibility

On a small screen, scroll the table horizontally to read all three columns.

    Fictional observations to interpret
    CheckFictional findingDecision
Parsing JSON-LDCode can be interpretedUsable syntax, not verified facts
Declared opening hoursSaturday open in markup, closed on the pageCorrect after confirming the actual hours
Declared reviewsRating appears only in markupRemove unsupported review markup
    What can we conclude?

Syntax checking is one step. Contradictory hours and a review absent from the page prevent treating the whole as coherent. A fact does not become true because a tool accepts its format.

    What should be checked next?

Have the responsible person approve the facts, align the page and markup, then use tools appropriate to the intended result type. Schema.org and Google rich-result eligibility are different concepts.

    What makes this check reusable?

Context to specify : URL, code version and business source approving opening hours or conditions.

Evidence to retain : Compare each markup property with the page actually published.

Decision to prepare : Separate factual correction, syntax validation and eligibility for the intended rich result.

Explore the check further : Validate structured data on a website

Scope and limits : These findings are fictional. Even compliant markup does not guarantee a rich result.

    Frequently asked questions

Detailed answers about scope, decisions and delivery.

No. Eligibility, presentation and ranking are decided by search systems and can change. Validation is necessary for correct markup, but it does not replace useful content, crawlability or the systems’ own requirements.

No. Use only types that represent real content on the page. Extra markup can create contradictions and maintenance work, especially when several templates copy the same facts differently.

Correct the markup or publish validated factual information. Structured data should describe visible, verifiable content. Do not add reviews, local addresses, prices or availability merely to fill a property.

Correct syntax is one step. Types, properties, relationships and the relevant engine’s rules also need review. Display depends on its criteria; valid markup does not guarantee a particular presentation.

Generate shared values from the same source and check them during publication. Name, price, date or availability changes must reach visible text and associated data. Keep stable identifiers for entities that have not changed.
